We awoke to another crispy morning - the snowdrops are still creating a wonderful carpet of white in the woods and still are a sign of spring to come. The lambs who have shared the woods for the winter have enjoyed nibbling the ivy from the trees and the barks are now quite bare. Manly the ram is due to be removed from his duties and the flock can then be reunited. I noticed this morning that several ewes need to have their feet trimmed - another task for the forthcoming weekend. This weekend the dawn chorus has lightened the mornings. The robins are gathering in the garden and claiming their own territory with their cheery birdsong. I am pleased to see flocking starlings flying over from the neighbours farm in the late afternoon - a sign that winter is not yet over. The chickens however believe spring is well on the way with their egg supplies growing day by day. The egg stall is once again in place at the end of the lane - now that we have a surplus we can offer some to our neighbours.
I have been busy making some changes to our website today, adding some newer comments from last years guests. It is always lovely to look back over the guest book - I end up getting quite touched by the appreciation. I am now off in search of photographs from last season of the yurts and the things to do in the area so that I can add some more to the website. At 3.20 it will soon be time to bring Power - our connemara pony in from the field and settle him for the evening. He has had an infection in his foot for weeks now - and although he is no longer lame a section of his hoof wall has been removed which makes for lots of evening work polticing and washing it to prevent any re infection. We are hoping not to have to put front shoes on as our ponies are barefoot - but if it means he is kept sound we might have to take that route. Ok, must dash now, animals needs calling me outside and away from the comfort of the log burner !
