West Devon makes the perfect base for exploring the local area on foot.  This August, Dartmoor National Park are hosting a series of walks  and talks on Dartmoor exploring the nature and history of the local area.

There really are so many walks to choose from, by far the most popular of our suggested walks is to explore the wonderful gorge at Lydford.  There are wild and remote walks on the high moors of Dartmoor,  where you can tick off the tors you summit and plunge into pools for a cooling swim,  for those wanting a challenge,  you can search for as many ‘letterboxes’ as you can,  these are small boxes placed on the moors with rubber stamps which you can collect in your notebook.  There are literally hundreds to search for and a club you can join when you reach one hundred !

Head north and you will find the rugged north cornwall coast where you can join the coastal path for dramatic landscapes and dropping into secluded coastal beaches and villages.  Head south for the calmer waters of Devon where wild swimming and golden beaches are bountiful!

The Tamar Valley area of outstanding Natural beauty offers beautiful woodland walks and the Tamar Trails have routes marked out for you,  alternatively,  there are numerous walks in the grounds of our numerous local national trust properties including Castle Drogo,  Buckland Abbey and Cotehele.
